Through creativity, service and community spirit, residents at Goodwin House Alexandria bring meaning to daily life. Whether contributing ideas, sharing talents or supporting one another, they remain actively engaged in ways that strengthen our campus and positively impact the wider community.
Volunteering and community spirit
Residents at Goodwin House Alexandria bring energy, creativity and compassion to campus life and beyond. They lead and volunteer in everything from presenting workshops, hosting fairs, performing music and concerts to organizing craft shows and Earth Day celebrations. Many residents tutor team members preparing for U.S. Citizenship or English learning, while others coordinate special events or lean in to hands-on community service. Their efforts help spark culture, connection and purpose in every corner of life here.
Resident tutors for citizenship
One of the most meaningful programs is resident tutoring for team members working toward U.S. Citizenship. Residents partner with team members to improve English skills, prepare for the naturalization test and build confidence along the way. These one-on-one relationships strengthen bonds between residents and team members, making the entire Goodwin Living family stronger and more connected.
Culture, creativity and ingenuity
Treasured traditions like the Market Place, Craft Shop and resident-led art shows bring creativity and community spirit together. Residents donate items, craft handmade goods and showcase their artwork through gallery exhibits, performances and seasonal events. These efforts not only celebrate talent and expression on campus, but also raise funds for the Goodwin Living Foundation—extending the impact of residents’ ingenuity and generosity to benefit the wider community.
